letter from M and back again

Hi M,
you were at all the music, eh?
anything especially good?
you're being good?
not bad, that is.

Dear M,

Unfortunately, I didn't get to catch as much music as I would have liked. The shows were packed.

I did go to the live showing of Q, where I quickly saw Wintersleep, Joel Plaskett, and a rocking chick from Cape Breton.

The only real meat of the ECMAs (which wasn't even part of them) that I managed to catch was the Backstreet Records staircase show. In fact, I was supposed to host it-- but the musicians did such a good job of hosting themselves that I just sat back and enjoyed.

Sackville's favourite daughter was there, Julie. It was good to see her play some new stuff despite having a desperate cold. My friends Koak and Vehicle played. I like their stuff. Also playing was Share and The Olympic Symphonium. Both really great.

Would have liked to have seen Dog Day and Shotgun Jimmie.

Wasn't too impressed with who won awards, though. Seems to me they could have chosen a lot better.

Then again, I'm biased toward good music.

Speaking of good. I'd say I'm trying. I'm still grappling this thesis. It's a real pain. Sometimes I consider doing a PhD, but I think I will require a substantial break before that. But I'm leaning toward kitsch. I might do something about kitsch. This was inspired by a trip to the Irving Big Stop.

Sometimes I feel like you're the ultimate thesis advisor. You keep checking in and seeing how things are going in general. But you never really talk about yourself.

I hope you're keeping out of bad trouble, too.

M
